I have a number of email addresses with Talktalk /Tiscali and I like to have them all coming into Outlook 2003 using Windows 7.

About ten days ago I began to get repeated (sometimes 50 of each) email downloads from my wife's email address with TalkTalk. I have spoken to TalkTalk but of course they do nothing to assist.

A similar problem was dealt with in 2012 when the wise heads at TheAnswerBank decided that the problem was with multiple virus programmes.
I don't think that this can apply to me as it is only my wife's account that it effects and it appears on both my laptop and my PC.
At present I have to go into the wife's webmail and remove all incoming emails to stop the repeats. I've also tried deleting her account on Outlook and then reinstalling it. Still the same.
Any ideas?

Whether TalkTalk care to admit it or not, it's a problem with their email server.

As email is passed from one server to another, the receiving server sends back a 'receipt' (in effect saying 'Thanks, I've got that'). If the sending server doesn't get a receipt it assumes that there's been a fault with transmission and re-sends the mail. If it still doesn't get a receipt, it again sends the mail and waits for a receipt. If it doesn't get that receipt . . . . Oh, I'm sure you've got the picture by now!

That process continues until the sending server reaches a pre-set limit and gives up trying. At that point it's likely that it will send a 'bounced mail' message back to the sender.

So, if TalkTalk's server isn't issuing receipts for incoming mail, you'll get however many copies the sending server was set to try (which is often 50 but can be 200, or even 2000), while the person sending it will get a message saying that it was undeliverable!

Hassle TalkTalk!

Thanks for the explaination Buenchico.
We've been with TalkTalk/Tiscali for many years and have had just a few small problems other than their recent fiasco last year and this of course. I have my own TalkTalk address and have no problems with it.
The real hard bit is trying to contact some one with knowledge at Talktalk. Life is too short for such frivolities!
Thanks anyway.

After hours spent listeneing to excuses from Talktalk "technical experts" I have given up and reset my wife's account as IMAP instead of POP3. No more repeated emails but in fact no emails coming into my Outlook.
Beunchico do you know what the Incoming server and outgoing server settings should be in advanced?
I've tried Googling it but get many different opinions.
I'm having problems too with my Talktalk emails, for a few weeks now they are coming in twice on my main PC but only once on my phone (which is set up as Typemail) Anyone know how to stop duplicate copies on Outlook Express 6?
Login/username = Your FULL email address (NOT just the bit before the @ symbol, as with some email providers) i.e. '[email protected]'

Incoming mail server = mail.talktalk.net

Incoming port = 143 for IMAP (or 110 for POP).

Outgoing mail server = smtp.talktalk.net

Outgoing port = 587

Outgoing SSL = No

Outgoing Authentication = Yes
