The last few times I've booted my laptop up, I get the following message:

ColorUservice.exe - System Error
The program can't start because MSVCP100.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the programme to fix this problem.

I'm running Win 10 and have recently installed quite a big Windows update and I'm wondering if this has possibly caused the problem in some way??

I've just tried opening WLXPhotoGallery and got 3 error messages, all very similar to the above one.

Any idea how to fix it please, apart from doing a system restore??

Try placing another copy of it in the main Windows folder. (I've no idea why that works but it's got me out of a hole more than once!). I also note that your laptop appears to be an Asus model ('cos ColorUservice.exe appears to be Asus software) and that there are threads on the web that suggest that installing (or, more likely, reinstalling) the Asus Smart...

Incidentally, useful tip. If you get a message of the sort just type the name into Google (MSVCP100 in this case). It tells you what it does etc.

As soon as I submitted the question. I googled "MSVCP100.dll missing". First step was to run a scan - it came back with "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations"

Oh well .... on to the next step I suppose .....
Take a look inside the System 32 folder on your computer (it's nested inside the Windows folder) to see if you can actually see Msvcp100.dll listed there. If it's not there, simply get a copy of it from any other Windows computer (via a memory stick, or similar) and put it in there. (Then restart your computer and cross your fingers!)

If the file is already there, you could still try replacing it with a copy from another computer.

Cheers Chris - the file is there, so I'll try and get a copy from my missus' laptop tomorrow and replace it ... fingers crossed :)
What have you been doing on your PC in order to get User Vice in color (sic) ?

My instinct would be to get a copy of the file as per Chris' suggestion. Past experience suggests where one problem occurs then there are others and the warning message simply changes.

Could you try reinstalling the Gallery software ?
Question Author
Oh well .... that didn't work.
Copied the file from my missus' laptop onto a USB stick, then dropped it into the system32 folder and replaced the existing file .... then rebooted my laptop .... and got exactly the same error message :(
Something's looking for it in the wrong directory ?

I haven't installed anything recently - I'm sure this problem has only just started, after quite a large recent windows update ..... For Funks Sake (for want of a better expression!!)

I also note that your laptop appears to be an Asus model ('cos ColorUservice.exe appears to be Asus software) and that there are threads on the web that suggest that installing (or, more likely, reinstalling) the Asus Smart Gesture driver, and then restarting your laptop, will fix the problem:

I emailed Asus and they gave me a link to download the following Microsoft software:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30679#

When I click on the link, it takes me to 3 downloads and asks which download(s) I want to download. I've emailed Asus again, but it'll prob be Monday before they reply, so does anyone know which one(s) I should download - all of them, or just one particular one??

TIA :)
VSU_4\vcredist_x64.exe for 64 for 64 bit operating system
VSU_4\vcredist_x86.exe for 32 bit operating system
VSU4\vcredist_arm.exe for an ARM processor
You need to access your computer's 'basic information' page:

If your laptop's keyboard has got a 'Pause-Break' key then press it together with the Windows key.

If not, press the Windows key together with I. That will open 'Settings'. Click on 'PC & Devices' and then on 'PC Info'. Check the make of the processor. If it's ARM (unlikely) you'll need VSU4\vcredist_arm.exe. If not (meaning that it's AMD or Intel), you can forget about that file.

Then look under 'System Type'.
If it says '32-bit' you need VSU_4\vcredist_x86.exe.
If it says '64-bit' you need VSU_4\vcredist_x64.exe
If you dont get any joy try a reset - but just to be safe back your stuff up.
Question Author
.... oh well .... back to the drawing board.

Tried installing the VSU_4\vcredist_x64.exe file (running 64 bit Windows - Intel processor).

First tried the repair option - that didn't work, so I uninstalled it, then tried the install option .... just rebooted and got the same error message :(
Have you tried the Asus Smart Gesture driver (re)installation that I suggested above?
Question Author
.... for some reason, I forgot to try the Asus Smart Gesture as you suggested.
Anyway, I tried repairing it, but that didn't work, so I uninstalled, then reinstalled it ...... so far, so good - no pop up error and I managed to open the WLXPhotoGallery with no errors ...... a well-deserved BA is coming your way Chris :)
