Have you tried turning it off and turning it on again? Yes, I know that sounds facetious but it's amazing how often it works!
If that doesn't work and it's definitely allsound that's missing (including, for example, if you try to play a CD or DVD), you probably need to reinstall the audio driver. I'll try to find it for you.
Hiya Chris!! Nice to know I'm not the only one awake!
Dya know what,....I must admit I haven't tried the turning on/off again!! Am so used to just putting it on Sleep.
Shall shut everything down now, then fingers xd for morning ;)
Nitey nite,
Baths
that happened with me baths, on an older laptop. I googled question with particular info and got info! Btw, our lovely old cat lost it in the first place with paws in the wrong place! Just google "sound lost on laptop" it worked for me!
Chris,...I tried your link tonight but still no sound :( I did notice that when I can see 3 slider markers with sound symbol at bottom, the Windows sound icon is muted,,and i can't unmute, (demute?) it.
Is the 'speaker muted' light on? (It's an amber light up near the 'F' keys, at the top of your keyboard). If so, press and hold the F6 key until it goes out.
Think I did that, Minty, and that's where I found one of slidey things with speaker icon at bottom with red line through and wasn't able to change it :(
You've told us when the sound does work (when playing a CD) but not, specifically, about when it doesn't.
For example, one of the commonest audio problems reported here on AB is when people can't get any sound from Youtube videos. That always turns out to be because they've accidentally clicked on the mute button (next to the forward-&-back slider) on a Youtube video and their browser then remembers that setting every time they re-visit Youtube. (The solution for that is simply to go to a Youtube video and click the button again to un-mute the sound).
Nope, have muted, unmuted everything. I even clicked on Settings cog on right hand side and got Autoplay.. that slider was far right, as was Annotations
Speed was normal, Quality was Auto 480p
Am lost now :(
Yay Chris!! Tried Microsoft Edge, and got sound on Youtube!! Woop woop!! So many thanks! You truly are my hero :) Still don't know, or care why it stopped via Chrome......Thank you for the music ;)
To fix the problem in Chrome:
Open Chrome.
Go to a random Youtube video.
While it's playing, right-click on the volume icon and select 'Open Volume Mixer'.
There will be a column headed either 'Chrome' or, perhaps more likely, with the name of the video.
Click at the foot of that column to un-mute Chrome.
