Laptop Problem

Was using laptop earlier today with no problem.. just switched it on now..beside my user photo was a message which I think said configuring or starting Windows..now everything seems to have reverted to when I got laptop..i.e. original picture & no email programme etc.please can anyone tell me what has happened.

It almost sounds as if it's done a factory restore but you would have noticed that when it booted up. Are you sure you didn't create a second user and logged into that.
I wonder if your data directories became corrupted and it created a new set, but you normally get an error message when trying to log in. It would take further diagnostics to discover exactly what happened including checking the user directories and it may be just one of those Windows glitches that you will never find the answer to

Thanks for your answer,Bertrum...I have NO idea what happened, but I switched laptop off, waited a few minutes, switched it on & hey presto, all working again.
