Nonsense. We use screwfix on a regular basis.

Honest to God Ummmm - lad very insistent on my giving the email address and I gave it to him as I particularly wanted to get the torch.
You could have given him a false one
was this over the phone or in a shop or online?

Were you actually in the shop? Next time stand your ground and say no if you don't want to. A lot of shops do it now - it's so they can email you the receipt rather than waste the paper/printing. I do it with New Look etc doesn't bother me as I use a hotmail spare address.
Question Author
thanks prudie for your answer - I did wonder what it was all about. (in the shop)

Do you know what happens here.

When opening a bank account or giving your ID at the bank - they are insistent it has to be a drivers licence or passport - now Sista may have to open a bank account for a reason but she has only a bus pass. Bank said it was insufficient ID. When it comes for her to do this - is there anything I can do.
That's not true. We use screwfix
Two different issues JJ for screwfix, I think the lad may have been mistaken, I have certainly shopped in there and not given an email address but If it was a problem then I would just have made one up.

For the second one, she needs to ask what other forms of ID they will accept.
I keep an address for nonsense like this, Mountain Warehouse does the same, it's to be able to email a receipt apparently.
// he said we can't sell then//

refusing to sell on the grounds of a customer not providing an email address is economic suicide

I've always got a couple of 'throwaways' spare. I buy in Screwfix quite often and although they've asked for an email, I just say 'No email'. I've always come out with my purchase.

As "aelmpvw" almost certain financial suicide to refuse a sale due to no email.
Banks will accept other types of I/D but may only offer a Basic Bank account which will only give a cash card and allow direct debits.
Several items will be required, some of which will be treated as I/D and some for the address.
I/D
Current full UK Driving Licence (old style paper version)
Disabled parking document
HM Revenue & Customs tax notification
Recent Benefits Agency letter (Department for Works & Pensions, Jobcentre Plus, Benefits Agency, Veterans Agency) confirming your right to benefits

ADDRESS
Council tax bill (valid for current year)
Utility bill (dated within last four months)
Telephone bill (dated within the last four months) – mobile phone bills are not acceptable
Sky or cable TV bills (dated within the last four months)
Credit card bill (dated within the last four month). Certain conditions may apply for overseas financial providers
Bank, Building Society, Credit Union statement – showing current activity (dated within the last four months). Certain conditions may apply for overseas financial providers
Mortgage statement from a recognised lender (dated within the last 12 months)
Disabled parking document (blue or orange)
HM Revenue & Customs tax notification
Tenancy agreement (must be from a local council or reputable lending agency)
Recent Benefits Agency letter (Department for Works & Pensions, Jobcentre Plus, Benefits agency, Veterans Agency) confirming your rights to benefits (dated within the last four months)

Each Bank may vary slightly, but if she googles Bank name I/d she should find a full list.

thanks all to the second query. Sista has nothing but bus pass photo ID and you know what she did not want it as she never would use a bus - I (had to do it all) filled out the form, got a new birth certificate, got her to give me a utility bill etc.

I then brought it down to the bus station office and the girl refused to take it saying Sista needs to go down which she did albeit reluctantly.

Sista then told me that the girl opened the form and gave her back the birth certificate. They said it would be 6 weeks when she would get it but I am now wondering will she get the pass as the forms did ask for the utility bill and birth certificate.

Ubasses - my sista would not have any of the other ID - maybe gas bill and electricity bill - that's it.

Then that would be it if and when she receives bus pass which has photo.

Never owned a passport and never drove so no drivers licence.

When I reported my own fraud on my own account - when assistant was helping me - she said my bus pass was no good. I had to go home again and get I have both - passport and/or drivers licence.
When I took my bus pass pass application in, they checked my i/d items there and then, handed them back to me and I received the pass a couple of weeks later.
I have used screwed and did not have this problem. You should report this further. I also if asked and not relevant to purchase, give a false email address.
****screwfix****
[email protected]

That's what I put on forms online that insist on email address as a mandatory field.

Jenny....there are plenty of places where you buy something as mundane as a torch, so shop around !

I bought a really smasher in Tesco last summer, for instance.

Mikey - I don't do retail therapy ie shop around. I go to the destination buy and immediately leave.
