The line across the top of my screen on both my (synchronised) mail accounts has disappeared therefore I cannot min/maximise or shut the window. I have been using ctl/alt/delete to get out of it. Have googled what to do with no luck at all. Running windows 8.1 and the windows tile on my task bar is no longer live. Any suggestions please. Thank you

Have you accidentally gone into full screen mode? If so press f11 to get out of it.
Try double clicking on the top bar of your browser. This will usually min or max the browser window.

thank you both. Have tried your method Jackdaw 33 and it worked once but when I went to my other mail account the button had disappeared. The same with your solution spathyphllum
Are you on a apple computer?
Try repeating with your other mail account.
P.S. The Windows key + M will minimalise the screen.
Question Author
Not on apple and it didn't work Jackdaw. It does appear for a few seconds when I first go on by disappears. It looks as though the vertical dark grey line on the right hand side of the screen doesn't go right to the top of the page - is this significant?

Has this only just started happening, were you able to minimise before?
If so... Try turn off the computer and turn it on again, or close the browser / app and try to re-open it.
Question Author
windows key+F5 didn't work - and it's only my email pages -all the others are fine.

This seems bizzare. Hopefully Buenchico can look in to this thread.
Question Author
thank you spathyphllum - appreciate the help - stay well.
how do you access email? is it outlook via the browser? which browser? or outlook direct outside the browser?
The grey bar on the right is the scroll bar. Have you tried clicking on it and scrolling to the top?
also if you move the pointer to the top of the screen does the bar drop down?
Question Author
yes have clicked on the grey side bar - looking at the side bar on this page, the height it goes to is the same as that on my email pages so don't think that is a problem. What is different is that there is no bar across the top of the email pages, it looks as though the bar which has the min/max/x buttin on is missing or hidden. Hope this makes sense.
And just to confirm, taking the courser to the top of the window does NOT prompt the bar to return?
Question Author
No, the curser just goes to the top right but there's nothing to click on - could the page be stuck in full screen?
have you tried pressing f11? That enters or exits full screen.
"could the page be stuck in full screen? "

This was my initial thought.

Sometimes, as TTT questions you about, email windows such as 'outlook' windows can pop up, and often get stuck, as they are their own entity.
Question Author
nothing happens when I press F11 -thank you all so much for the generous help but I feel as though I've wasted quite enough of your time already so am going to let you get on with more exciting things. Thank you again, I really do appreciate it. Stay well everyone.
