I expect others have received notification from Yahoo that they are using non-Yahoo applications, such as 3rd party email, calendar or contact applications and want us to change our sign-in method. I have an iphone and ipad but use an HP laptop. I'm at a loss as to what I should do to change the method to comply. I have an app on my iphone/ipad and use the internet on my laptop to sign in, both of which appear to be suggested methods. I really don't understand what I should do. Yahoo will not support my current sign-in from 20.10.20.
I am a bit of a technophobe and am worried if I do nothing, I will lose my email, calendar and contacts, which I always use on my iphone/ipad.
Thanks very much in advance for any advice you could give me.

Assuming this email is definitely from yahoo and not a spammer: I think I see - Yahoo is saying you're using a third party app to sign in rather than Yahoo's own app? From what you wrote originally it didn't look as though you were. However I suggest you log out of the app you use but don't delete it - yet. I've not had this notification. What does it say you have to change?

It's a long email giving 3 options: 1 - to access my email using Yahoo mail app - which I do on iphone or go to mail.yahoo.com to access Yahoo mail on the web - which I do on the laptop. 2 - keep my current non-yahoo app and follow some steps to get it to sync with their secure sign-in, but in most cases I will have to remove my Yahoo account from the app and then add it back again, it gives steps to follow. Or 3 - I can generate a one-time unique password which will allow me to sign in to my account using my non-yahoo application.

However I suggest you log out of the app you use but don't delete it - yet. Then go to yahoo on the web on your laptop and sign in directly to check that's okay. And then also download their 'official' app to your devices. Once you've installed their official app you can safely uninstall the third party app.

All speculation on my part so someone might be along to correct my assumptions. Also do please check the notification is definitely from yahoo.

Hi Chinajan, Yahoo have sent me 2 messages now, using my actual name, so pretty confident it's not spam and saying they wont support my current sign-in functionality application from 20.10, so I was a bit worried. Thanks very much for your very clear instructions. I will do this and hope this satisfies Yahoo! Thanks again, much appreciated.
Most welcome. I hope it works. Forgot to add don't click any links in the email you received just in case. But I'm sure you knew that.

If you're able to sign in to yahoo on the web directly then that's always your back up and you shouldn't lose any emails.
