This is a result of the Encrypting File System (EFS) in OSs such as Windows XP which makes compressed files appear in blue and encrypted files in green.

thanks kempie
i started using system mechanic a few week ago and noticed it said it was compressing files at one stage
that will be why they were going blue around that time
cheers
Hi, to change the file names back to black click on 'Tools' at the top of My Documents then 'Folder Options' then click the 'View' tab along the top and then scroll down towards the bottom and untick the box named 'Show encypted or compressed NTFS files in colour'.

Hope this helps!
