Folders turning read only

I have received my new HP laptop few weeks a go.

It has two physical hard drives in the laptop but in three partitions. One partition is for data files. The laptop is as it come in the box. I have not altered any setting running XP Home SP2
About a week a go some folders started to turn read only and I can not delete the, I have tried to go the property and remove the read only from the folder. It appers to remove the read only setting but as when I try to delete it again it gives me an access denied error and the folder is read only.
I did not bother asa it was only 2folders. But now all of the folders in the partition have turned read only and I can delete any. I cannot move files out of the folders as well.

Can any one help me with this, or am I been a dum ass and forget some thing simple.

are you using a filesharing program, bear share, kazaa, etc etc? as if someone is accessing the directories, it might say its not able to delete it, and sometimes it wont tell you someone is downloading from you, it'll jsut not give you access to change the files?

That had crossed my mind, and yes I was downloading using bit torrent, and the files where benign saved in the few of the effected folders but not all.
Now all the folders in this partition are affected.

I have had a look in the task manger ant there are no bit torrent task running. Be side the computer has be turned on and off lots of times after that.

I have ran a spy where and a anti virus program and they don�t show any thing as well.

Im a bit stuck on this one. Any help well come.

Your operating system (or a program running on it) might lock certain files and that'll stop you deleting them. If you use the above program then the next time you reboot, they'll be deleted before Windows or any other program gets the chance to lock them. Bear in mind that they're only deleted when you reboot rather than at the instant that you select them for deletion.
