The memory on my Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop is almost all used up and I can't free anymore as I need everything that is on there so I want to get an external hard drive to store stuff on but I'm not sure what the best one to get is. I would appreciate any recommendations anyone has on what make, size etc would be good to buy.
TIA.

Maxtor, LaCie, Seagate, Western Digital, etc., are all good brands.

Basically make sure it has a USB2 connection. If you have a Mac at all, get one with Firewire too (you could do this on a windows PC too if you wanted, but it's especially important for a mac).

So the only other choice is how much space you want -- the above is 250GB. This just depends what you want to do with it; the more the better, obviously, but these size drives are at a good price point right now.

Thanks fo3nix - that's really helpful. I was thinking of about 250GB and that one you posted is no where near as expensive as I thought it would be which is great.
Thanks for your help.
