Will a USA computer work in the UK?

Will a computer that was bought in America with a two pin plug work in the UK? How?

The question isn't about the plug it is about power to the PC.The Americans work on a 120v system.In the Uk it is 240v.Unless the power supply can handle 240v then it wont work.

As Pauln90 states, the PC will only work if it's specifically designed for dual-voltage. This is extremely unlikely.

While it's possible to buy transformer to drop the voltage from your wall socket down to that required by the PC, it would probably be simpler to replace the PSU (power supply unit) inside the PC. A local computer shop should be able to supply and fit a new PSU for no more than �50. (Don't go to PC World. Their fitting charges are ridiculously pricey. It would probably cost you nearer �100, with fitting, in one of their stores).

Note the keyboard will be diffierent, and the software on it will be USA versions rather than UK versions.

You MAY have trouble getting support for it in the UK from the company that supplied it, if it is a name brand (Sony, HP etc)
