hard drive full

my sony vaio laptop has a 60gb hard drive. lately im getting messages saying the c drive is full up. i have gone into my computer and the c drive is 20gb and has no free space. there is also a d drive which is 21gb and is empty, i dont know where the other 9gb's is.

is there any way i can transfer some of the spare memory from the d drive to the c?

i have very limited computer knowledge, how can i solve this problem?

most of the memory has been taken up with my pictures and also itunes

You dont actually transfer the memory from C to D.

What you can do is move files, such as pictures, from C to D.

If you have not done this before get someone to show you how, or do it for you, as you could get into a mess.

In future work with and store all pictures on the D drive.

Start treating the D drive as you did the C drive. Save new i tunes and pictures to it.

DONT move any System folders from the C to D. These are the folders used by Windows. Only move files or folders you are CERTAIN are your pictures.

Dont move your music files are this may confuse I tunes.

IMPORTANT - BACKUP.

Storing your pictures on a hard drive is NOT a good idea.

A hard drive can crash and in seconds you could lose EVERYTHING on the drive. Or the laptop could get stolen.

If you have a CD or DVD writer, back up your pictures to a CD or DVD drive.

You can then delete them from your hard disk.

If you HAVEN'T got a CD or DVD writer, buy an external CD or DVD writer that plugs in the USB port and backup your pictures NOW.

Think how you would feel if you hard disk crashed tonight and you lost all your pictures, and dont think it wont happen to me, it can.

thanks for your advice. i bought myself an external hard drive in the sales and have copied my pics to there.

I am afraid even an external hard drive is not a back up.

A hard drive uses moving parts and can crash at any time.

Only a CD, DVD, or maybe Tape, is a true backup.
