i'm assuming you have a torrent application and actually downloaded whatever you were, not just a "blah.torrent" file...

if so, it should be in avi format where it downloaded. what format is it (the three letters after the '.' )?

but, if it's not in .avi format, but in rm or something, use winAVI to convert it.

Hi and thanks for your help.

It came down as a group of files in a folder, and from the info I got from google, it's the.BIN and .CUE files I need to convert.

Know any good convertors? (Free preferably!!)
try Download.com or filehippo
Bin Cue files are an image you can burn onto disk using most cd/dvd writing software such as nero. If you don't want to burn the disc you can get cd/dvd emulators that allow you to open the file on your computer and be able to work with the file.
have a look at alcohol 120% or daemon tools, though I couldn't get the latter to work.
These are emulators as well as other things. They act as a virutal drive allowing you to 'mount' the image file and extract the mpeg part of the dvd
