Can any CD player on a PC/laptop (integrated or external) be used to burn CD's if you have the appropriate software? i.e. is it the software or the hardware which determines the ability to be able to burn onto CDs? Thanks.
It's the hardware that determines the ability to burn CD's and DVD's etc. Usually the draw of the drive will have it's capability printed on it. CD and DVD burners are very common these days and most new PCs and laptops will be able to write CD's as standard
The most popular combinations are DVD ROMs with built in CD burners and DVD and CD burners
Cheers - thought that would be the case. I have an old laptop through work with a removal CD drive, but its not one I can use for burning. I'll maybe look at buying a removable one that will work with this laptop.
Cheers - I did just that last night as it happens, and have been happily burning away since then. I now have a decent CD collection once more (all legal, natch!)
