I've just purchased a brand new Macbook and everything is working lovely except the battery is not receiving charge. When I plug in the AC power the green light stays on on the adapter but I have read it in the instructions that it should be amber when the battery is charging. I have pressed the button on the base of the battery but none of the charge condition lights come on. The macbook came sealed with the battery installed so is it something that I should do to start the charging off somehow or does someone think the battery maybe faulty? Also the indicator in the Apple taskbar has a cross in it which suggests it has not been recognised.
Thanks

Usually Apple supply the laptops almost fully-charged, so you can begin working on it immediately.

Just plug it in, and as long as the light on the adapter lights up, just leave it like that for a few hours. It should be fine.

If there's still some problem after several hours (once several hours has passed, try using it from the battery and see if it works and if the icon changes); then it may be faulty, but it's unlikely.
