Name for Web Site

I am getting a cookery web site set up for me but I am stumped for a good name for it. Obviously I would like something that would encourage lots of people to visit the site but my mind seems to go blank when I try to think of a name. My sister and I are hosting it jointly and plan for it to be simple recipes with daily quotations and sayings etc thrown in. Any ideas would be really appreciated.

Well firstly you can only have a site that is available and nobody else has got.

You can use a site like this below to search what domain names are still available:

http://netcetera.co.uk/Products/domainnames/

Secondly you need to decide if you are going to have a uk based site such as co.uk or org.uk (which are cheaper) or .com or .org (which are more expensive)

And thirdly, maybe you need a quirky name that people will remember.

So www.cookerysite.com is a bit boring but

www.time4dinner.co.uk for example is not (which as it happens is not available).

Note that if you did register ww.time4dinner.co.uk then there is nothing stopping anyone else registering www.time4dinner.com and www.time4dinner.org and so on so unless your register ALL thse names your site may get lost.

So you need a quirky name, an original name, and an easy to remember name.

The name of the site is less important than you think - after all "theanswerbank" is not exactly a snappy name is it?.
What gets people to your site is high search rankings, which depend on content, index keys, submissions and links. If, when people get there they feel it's any good, they will likely bookmark it, and recommend it to their friends.

I think rojash is right. Just think of sites like Ebay, Google, Yahoo etc etc ........the names aren't really relevant, its whether people can find you on the web that is important.

I'd go for something simple like iCookery.co.uk (which is available). You will also have to make sure that there is no company trading under the name that you choose or they may have rights over your internet name. For instance, you couldn't have toysrus.co.uk (if it was available) as the Toys r Us company would have a legitimate claim to that domain name and you would have to hand it over. You can check for existing company names on the Companies House website.
