password protecting files
does anyone know how or even if its possible to password protect or hide a file so that it can't be viewed by someone who shares my computer? (windows xp)
i have some pics stored in their own folder within "my pictures" and i don't want anyone else to view them.
also is it possible to turn off the feature where the folder has a couple of pre-view pics of the contents on the front of the folder?

to encrypt ... right click the folder (best to stick to folders)
from the menu - properties | advanced
tick the encrypt box .... done!
the other way is to enable full file sharing
open explorer from the menu
tools | folder options | view | take the tick out of "use simple file sharing"
then right click the folder ... | sharing and security | security |
remove every user except yourself.
BEWARE in both cases if you forget your password ... uve had it
you can google truecrypt and download the proggy
create an encrypted container . store your stuff there
etc etc

Right click the folder or icon, select properties, change icon, in the window of icons you will see a blank spot, click it to select it as your icon. then exit. Now right click it again and rename it exactly as follows press and hold alt and press 255, its a blank name. now the icon or folder will be completely invisible. You can put it way off in the corner and nobody will ever know its there. If you put your mouse over it, it will still turn to the hand to indicate there is a folder there.
