Transfer of files to Vista.

I am trying to transfer Microsoft picture it programme from my XP lap top to a new Vista laptop.I hear you can use a special cable between comps but want to try transfer just the one programme at the moment.I have cpopied the file to a IGb stick and all the files are there.When I say move to my docs after plugging in the memory stick in vista comp I get a long list of items which seem to have to be put on files somewhere to make the programme open to use .What do i have to do?If i use a transfer cable in future will I still have problem opening programmes?

It is not easy to move a software program from one computer to another.

When you install any softwae program it not only puts the files on the computer but also updates various Windows system files such as the registry.

Finding out what it puts in the registry and other system files is very difficult.

The only real solution is to install the software from scratch on the new PC (although my guess is that you have not got the software to install).

Note also that you may need a special version of Picture it to run under Vista. Not all software written for XP will run inder Vista.

Thanks for you reply.It seems to me that if you are considering updating to vista then the trouble you will get with non compatible transfers isn't worth the bother.Stick with XP.or buy new and start over again.I have been using vista and cant get on with it at all.Reverting back to my old laptop.Please take note all of you people out their you will pull your hair out trying to use vista.
