Hi - my husband tried to insert a new mouse as ours was not working.
Since then whenever we try and start up the computer there is a screen apologising about windows not starting
It then gives the number of seconds until windows will start (starts at 30 goes to 0) When it hits 0 the screen goes blank then the windows logo appears then the HP logo appears and then...it goes back to the same windows not starting screen. I
have tried all the options on the screen but the same thing keeps happening. Does anybody have any idea what I should do? Is it time to call in an expert?
Some people are no help here. This sounds more like a hardware issue.
Do you have a recovery disc with your computer?
Try going into Safe Mode by pressing F8 repeatedly at the first screen. If successful select Safe Mode and enter as Administrator.
If that is successful, and you have access to another computer, let us know and we can try find a solution.
As Mac 70 suggests it is probably a hardware issue.
Were you trying to install a bog standard mouse or is it an optical or wireless mouse that came with an installation disc. If this install disc was not installed correctly then you could get a conflict as you describe.
Thanks so much to you all for answering me - really appreciate it. My husband (the guilty culprit) has taken it into his school and is letting one of his computer friends have a look at it. Probably safest bet.
Liz - I am having the same problem. I would be interested to know if your hubby managed to get this sorted out, and how!
I have gone to the link fender supplied, but it all involves having startup disks or CD-ROMs, none of which I have because XP was already installed on my PC.
I have also tried starting XP in Safe Mode but just get a screen full of script before the PC restarts.
My kids are now getting desperate for the computer!
Hi geordie_minx - I will let you know what happens. He took it into work yesterday and has left it with his friend so we'll see. I know what you mean about the kids - I think my son feels like he's lost his right arm. He's having to talk to us instead!
