Are you sure you don't already have a USB 2.0 port?
I easily changed mine to 2.0 a while back (on my desktop) with a USB 2.0 card.

when you fit the card
be sure to touch a metal part of the case BEFORE you open the package and start poking around.
if you move your body ... do it again
static possibly won't "kill" your PC immediately ... but it will shorten it's life and get you in the end
usb1 12Mb/s (max)
usb2 480Mb/s (max)
a small but significant difference ;-)
