Has anybody used this software to set up a new PC from an old one? Any comments appreciated.

careful there .... data transfer and disc upgrades is what this is intended for. (also see acronis)
You can't just bundle an old build onto a new (different PC)
the install process creates a thing called a HAL ... which is tied to that specific configuration of hardware (that's before you start activating OEM versions etc)
