I am writing a training course on MS Excel Vlookup and i'm struggling to come up with a really simple explanation of what it is.

MVP

VLOOKUP provides a means of looking up relational data. For example, consider the months of the year. It is commonplace to see these represented as numbers 1 to 12. In your spreadsheet, you may wish to convert the numbers into their month name. VLOOKUP can do this for you. It's a great way of avoiding repeating similar data in a spreadsheet.
