Floppy Disk |Drive

I need to look at some old stuff on floppies, and the last time I did this, about six months ago, it worked fine. Now the drive has vanished. Can anyone suggest how I can retrieve it? I'm running XP. The Microsoft website is no help at all.

Excellent site, with very clear instructions. I followed them, and the final message was that the drive had been reinstalled, but alas there's no sign of it. i then tried again, with the same outcome. Thanks very much for your advice.
