Is it possible that the sites are popups?
can (dare) you give us an example ;-(
alternatively ... kerplunk could be on the right track
go to tools | internet options | browsing history settings
where is the temp folder?
while you're there ... clear the history ...
Keep tabs on how it grows
in tools ... confirm the popup blocker is on

Does anybody have any answers others than the ones posted for my question. Work have produced a sheet with 109 blocks on it going back to march 2006. I actually started work in March 2005. I have gone through the sites that have been recorded and i cannot recall any of them. How could this have happened?
Malware can add websites to your favourates, change your homepage, hyjack your browser. Porn sites tend to be pop-up related. just clear your history. I assume you haven't cleared your ssl cache so click on the arrow next to the address bar and it will give you a list of sites you have recently visited. If the problem happens again, just check that. If the sites appear, report to your administrator, if not just clear your history and consider it malware.
Hope that helps, Clive.
