When I open up an old letter, WORD auto changes the date to today's date.
I have tried HELP but no adjustment made has had any effect.

You don't say what Word you are using...2000/2003 etc:. i think there are differences.

You could try...Tools,/Auto Correct Options and then disable auto complete...problem is if you are using Word XP you can't just turn the auto date off.

Windows XP and Office XP.

TKS Bekka.
Does this mean that if I wrote an important business letter 6 June say, and looked at it 7 July and am now told it didn't arrive, I've no means of knowing the date it was originally composed?
So I can only send a copy with the original date on it if the date is changed manually - if I know it.

I think you need Ethel on this one Segilla..

This stirs a vague memory of something to do with form-fields...not too sure on this one though i'm afraid...sorry!
open a document, go to INSERT, then DATE & TIME, then un-check the box that says 'update authomatically'. should do it. Close word to save the changes.
