Windows live connection

Further to my question below i have now installed windoes live messenger. However when i try to log on i ger the error message 81000378 - contact list not available. Also when i run the connection troubleshooter it tells me that my gateway appears to be offline. Can anyone tell me how to sort this so that i can log on??! (am using windows xp)
