XP Professional and Vista Home Premium

Hello,

I have a desktop running XP Pro and I am contemplating buying a laptop running Vista Home Premium with idea of each acting as a back up to each other and also of course of being able to use laptop away from home.

However will I be able to transfer files (realise I will have to load suitable programs to new laptop first) across the different systems and will MS Office Professional 2003 operate on Vista Home Premium?

Would be most grateful for your help please.
