Sony Laptop Power Problem

My 4 year old Sony Vaio FR315S powered down without any problems last night. This morning it is totally dead. On trying to power up there are no lights nor any sounds from it. What could possibly be the cause? Would like to have some idea before having to trust those at PC World or similar with it! Thank you.

Further to my question I forgot to say that when I plug in my charger the fuse blows. Does this show a short circuit in the machine? Thanks again
