my pc will not restart

i have a pc running windows xp and it will not let me restart it comes up with the message error loading operating system it hasnt bothered me before but my antivirus(nod) has found adware and it says i need to restart to erase it can anybody help?? it wont let me delete the adware saying its being used (its in the system32 folder)

Invest in an adware remover, or try a system restore to a time when you knew it was OK.

and ad-aware (lavasoft) http://www.lavasoft.de/ms/ad_aware_free.php

unlike virus and firewall ... it's generally better to run more than one prog
