Norton Anti Virus 2007
I have recently renewed my subscription in November. I have bought my son a computer for Xmas. My question is can I utilise my subscription for both computers or do I have to buy another subscription. I renewed it from the website. I don't have an installation CD. The new computer has Norton installed with a couple of months free subscription. Any replies welcome. Thanks Keith

However, as there are viruses that do less harm to your computer than Norton, that's probably a good thing.
Uninstall Norton from both machines and install a combination of AVG or Avast antivirus with Comodo or ZoneAlarm firewall. These are free.
If you feel you MUST have a paid for product, then Eset NOD32 is the ONLY antivirus program worth paying for, and Eset Smart Security is the ONLY combination AV/Firewall worth the money.

I use AVG Anti Virus (free) and have been doing so for about 3 years and never had a problem.
I know many other people who reply to technical questions on this forum also use free AVG anti virus.
Dont think just because it is free it is not good.
It is free for individual home use, they do sell it to organizations and companies.

When PC Pro did their AV review in July then AVG came third, which is pretty good considering it is free for home use.

Will people PLEASE stop recommending AVG ! It isn't that good, and has an awful reputation amongst most computing forums that I frequent. At least one MAJOR game release (Bioshock) had its installation programme treated by AVG as a virus. Much better to use Avast ! as a free antivirus programme.
Couple this with (ironically!) the AVG Anti-spyware programme, Crapcleaner and a decent Firewall (or the one which comes with Windows if you must - it's less of a system hog than ZoneAlarm before anyone recommends that !)
Also, following a few basic rules to start with can help to avoid viruses...
1) NEVER EVER open attachments from e-mails that have come from unrecognised sources. And if possible check e-mails at your internet provider (Tiscali, AOL etc) rather than through Outlook or Outlook Express.
2) If you use Limewire or Azureus or Utorrent to download files then ensure the files you download have been checked by your antivirus software BEFORE you use them.
3) Use Firefox as your browser, or Internet Explorer 7 with the IE7Pro add-on. There's also Opera as well.
