my grandaughter sends me stuff from her computer, she has no ink in her printer. I think shes on windows works. I'm on ms office but cant print her stuff off because when I open it, it is all squares and gobbeldy gook. how can I get my computer to open it . tia
The squares and gobbledegook are formatting instructions for MS Works.
If you were to open the file in Notepad and have a look, you'd find your granddaughter's text in there. You could edit out the rubbish in Notemad, then copy and paste into Word and do a bit or reformatting before printing it if she is desperate.
It might be worth asking her if Works can save a file in RTF format (if memory serves it can, but I haven't used it for so long I've forgoten). Again I'm not certain, but I'm fairly sure Word can open RTF files, and that being the case you could then print them for her
The article I pointed to above seems to indicate the Works user can save a Works document in Word format. That article says
1) In the Works program, click File, and then click Save As.
2) In the Save as type list, click the appropriate Office program. For a Works Word Processor document, click Word 97-2003 (*.doc) or Word 2007 (*.docx).
