Only hear fan

I have a tower HP computer.

When i switch it on all i get is a loud fan noise and no display on monitor.
I have to switch it off by removing the power supply.Iv tried bootup off a disc, no difference
Any ideas?

check the monitor is on and plugged in correctly ;-)
then open the box ....

check the processor heatsink - if it looks like a fluffy bunny you need to clean it out (overheating would explain the fan and non boot)

if that no workee
check that the video card (if you have one) is seated correctly.
If graphics are "on board" consider either a repair or you could try fitting a new video card

many thanks AC, i will double check the video card, I have looked before at all the other items you suggested but no joy.
PC World do a �70 check and repair scheme, may try them if no luck

I've just had the same problem and posted much the same question as you. I was advised to go into the bios and reset the defaults etc. I have done this and now, hopefully, al seems ok.
