Monitors??

Hi, can someone please tell me how to hook up two monitors to one PC, so i can view 2 different screens at any time,
e.g I need one screen for my instructions and the other screen to carry out my instructions, the problems is how to i get the computer to reconise only one monitor at a time.

Asuming you actually have the two monitors running.

Right click on the desktop and select Properties. Select the Settings Tab then Advanced. In there you should find settings for two monitors.

Basically it gives you a wide desktop with a seamless movement to the second monitor. You drag the windows into place on which ever monitor you want.

If you HAVENT got the two monitors running yet, you need a graphics card with two outputs.

My graphics card has a VGA output and a DVI output.

You can connect one monitor to the "normal" VGA connector, and the other to the DVI connector. This does assume that one of your monitors supports DVI.

"This does assume that one of your monitors supports DVI. " Not quite correct,VHG - you can use a DVI-VGA adaptor, which is what I do on both my machines. Many dual-head cards that have a VGA and a DVI port (such as Nvidia) include such an adaptor in the box, but in any case they are not expensive.

I've been using a dual monitor setup for developing software since it first became possible under Windows 98. It still has many advantages (at least for me) over a wide screen, not the least being that to get a screen to match the current width of my two monitors would cost much more than the two monitors. I have never had a problem with getting it to work.

Other advantages I find:
When I maximise a window it only maximises to the monitor where it's currently located. This makes it a lot easier to organise multiple windows.
You can set the resolution of the two screens independently - which is great for may purposes and means I can design forms at the target resolution while still having the max resolution for my work area.
