OpenOffice.org Writer? I've had the latter installed, but don't like it as much. Also can't now get up the font I liked to use, so I'd like Word back as well. If so, could you please tell me whether Word can be downloaded for free? Someone told me there's an extension of it that can be added on, without having to pay for it. I'm working on an XP system. Thank you.

You can run Word alongside OpenOffice with no problems. No you can't download it for free, but if you were using it before you should have the CD.

Thanks rojash. If there's a CD knocking about, I haven't got it, as our computers were set up by someone else, so I'll have to check on that. I was only asking because i noticed ads for Microsoft Word Viewers, which appear to be downloaders that lets users who don't own MW view & print documents that were created in Word. Seems there are viewers for 97-2000, or replacements for word viewers from 2003. I can't make head nor tail of it.
No, you need to buy it. About 100 I think (for the Office suite with Excel, Powerpoint). But it also sounds like you were using it illegally in the first place anyway.

Thanks fo3nix - but I don't think so! This computer (hp) was bought from new. Word was installed & I had no problems with it at all. Then I ran out of space and memory, and everything was recently wiped to free this up. Instead of Word though, OpenOffice was installed this time, to save money. It works fine - but I prefer the old set up, and that's why I was wondering if I could get Word up for free, and if I had to uninstall OO first, or whether I could use both at the same time.
I'm not sure how HP work, but they should have included the Word CD (or at least a serial number), or perhaps Word installer is on the recovery disc that they either include or randomly give you the choice of burning.
