Vista SP1
Does anyone have any constructive views on whether SP1 is worth installing or not?
I'm not looking for replies from the "normal" techies who think they know it all and slag Vista off for the sake of it, (they're probably still marveling at the wheel and other new inventions) but from someone who uses Vista and has downloaded and installed SP1

Reviews are mixed on the results of the SP1 upgrade. Next month when it will be offered as an automatic download it will have a built-in fail-safe feature that will keep it from beein offered to users with incompatible hardware. In their inifinite wisdom, Microsoft have not published a list of the devices "blacklisted".
Bottom-line: if you have a recent image you're confident you can restore from, do try it out. Otherwise wait.
Hope this may help you decide cami.
Still in awe of the wheel and my first cave paint exhibit is due to open soon, LOL.
If you're worried and have a little knowledge about puters, create an image (Acronis or similar) or partition and install vista again and just update the partition and dual boot.
Not slagging Vista off having run it along side xp, but far too many glitches with the progs i like to run so i'm quite happy to bide my time till MS get there act together. At least i can download and install any prog and run it without worry that a driver or software is not compatable.
Pity MS didn't get it right first time 'cause i quite liked it.
Colin.

you know .... in all honesty ... I haven't had anywhere near as much trouble with vista as I had with XP.
having said that I'm in a privileged position ... and got new hardware and software.
I think a lot of the trouble lies with the must haves - queueing outside PC world at a minute to midnight ... without checking the compatibility of their kit BEFORE they installed it.
It would be stupid to blame the whole thing on them ...MS played a big part in withholding info so other mfrs had to virtually guess what was coming ... and to complicate matters ... dual ant quad core kit (which were always going to have teething troubles) as well as new generation GPUs (which always do have driver issues) flooded the market all at the same time which turned it into a bunfight

I have installed SP1 on a Vista Business machine. It installed Ok and I have not had problems.
I cannot say I have noticed any difference though.
However I do follow a forum for Vista users and a few of them have had quite serious problems.
Here is a review of the service pack from PC Pro

Here are some comments on the problems people are having

If you are going to install it make sure you have a process for going back to your previous versions if it goes wrong.

>techies who think they know it all and slag Vista off for the >sake of it, (they're probably still marveling at the wheel >and other new inventions)
Can I say that asking for help on a forum and then slagging off the very people who give up a lot of their free time on here to help people is NOT the way to encourage people to help you.
Nobody slags off Vista for the sake if it. Those of us who know a lot about PCs are aware of Vista's tortuous development process and the fact that it was shipped before it was ready.
>(they're probably still marveling at the wheel and other >new inventions)
Most people in the PC business HAVE to be receptive to new technology as we would not last very long if we didnt.
We are willing to praise were it is good (Core 2 Duo, SATA, Firefox etc) and critisize where it is bad.
Ask your questions but cut out the sarcastic remarks.

Well. I resisted because I figured you didn't want answers from experts, but only from those amateurs who would be prepared to reinforce you own rather ignorant position.
But now, I'm not answering your original question, so I guess its OK, to post :-)
Seeing your childish and ill-mannered reply to two of the most knowledgeable and helpful guys on this site just confirms my original belief that you are a silly little boy with his head up his own @rse :-)

camioneur - your ignorance is very glaring, and rude response to these very help people were uncalled for. Although you asked the question, I'm sure there are others who would benefit and appreciate these detailed and helpful answers; I for one always do from these guys answers.
ATroll and Vehelpfulguy your articulate and detailed answers are always welcome. Please continue to post them and ignore this ignorant, ungrateful person.
