a thing called "SpybotDeleter" pop up? Checked it out, and it appears to be a spyware application called a Trojan Packed 7, which can avoid the usual security methods such as Spybot S & D, etc. I've found some info on it for removal, but I can't understand the technical jargon. Can anyone help me with this?

it could have installed alongside something you installed recently, they normally come in 3 parts and you can delete then via add/remove programs in control panel

Thank you cazzz - it's a good start. I can't make head nor tail of all the techie blurb - about 4 pages of it - so I'll begin by looking into what you've suggested. x
