I've got a Dell Inspiron 6400, running Vista Home Premium. I was closing it down tonight and its frozen on the Logging Off screen. the indicator is still spinning as if its still running but been on this screen for about 30min. with no sign of anything happening. What have I done and how do I cure it?

Did you notice anything different as you logged off? Vista has a habit of changing the Shut Down option to "Install Updates and Shut Down". It's easy to miss!

No everything seemed the same, any Idea how to cure it/
The only thing I can suggest, then, is that you hold down the power button until it does a forced switch-off.

Thanks for the advice rojosh, dont know what the problem was but left it over night and it had shut itself down. Started up and seems OK now
I'm guessing then that it may have been installing service pack 1.
