should we turn off our wireless router when not in use,
for either health or other reasons?

That's because we in Greece are two hours ahead of you in the UK, so I get to read everything before it's been posted :-)
I personally do.

1) Theoretically more secure, since it can't be compromised if it's turned off (though with good security this shouldn't be an issue anyway).

2) Saves money on the electric bill. But probably not a lot.

I have a "smart plug" that turns the whole room off when the PC shuts down .... the router(s) + switches and phone charger are plugged into their own supply.
Provided you have some security enabled (WEP / WPA) it's no problem. A friend had his wifi connection hijacked by a neibour because he left it on and had no security. At least put your MAC addresses into the router.
