aol9 windows xp security needed??

can somebody advise me what do i need to keep my computer save from virus etc. I have AOLwindows XP,and i think aol give me McAffee protection free but i keep getting reminders to update to McAffee Security Suite for �2.99 per month. I dont understand as i am a novice. please help. thank you

Hi, You have several options really, you can
1) pay a monthly subscription for an Internet security.
2) you can buy a yearly Antivirus (e.g. Mcaffee, Norton
3) download a free security.

A lot depends on if you want to pay or are happy with a download.
What do you mainly use your pc for?
do you ebay, Paypal, internet banking etc.
Get back to me and I will try and Advise you on the better security to have!

thank you Rnchugg. i do not use Pay pal , but do a little internet banking. just use the computer for searching, music downloads etc. this security messages really confuse me and if there is a free safe security site i will us that will be great. thanks.
