With time on my hands following an Op, I have decided to tidy up my photo collection. I have lots of CD-Rs with various holidays on, all simply copied from the camera to the hard drive of my desk PC (XP)and then to the CD. No editing etc. I now want to copy the disc back to a hard drive (this time a friends laptop (Vista), and ten edit out the rubbish ones, before then copying to fresh discs or memory stick type of thing.

The CDs loads ok but when I access the relevant drive, although it shows the disc title, it says there are no files or folders. Clicking on Properties does show the percentage of disc that has been used up! Help please, I have loads of discs to do!!

did you finalise the discs when you made them originally, will they read in your desktop? If so you may need to finalise in your desktop before other drives can access them

I think this will be the reason. The only snag now is that I am not sure how to finalise the discs that have been created via the desktop PC. Can you explain in simple terms what the procedure is if it is possible to do it after the event.

Many thanks
Put the cd in your desktop - do they open ok?

Hi Ethel.

Yes they open Ok in the desktop, but no go on the laptop.

Cheers
I'm not sure if this is a finalise problem or Vista problem.

XP does not finalise data cds, only music. Did you use your own burning software or XPs?
Question Author
To be honest not sure what was used to Burn, but probably not XP. Might have been nero. I think will have to sort this out another time as I am about to set off on journey back to my girlfriends where the lap top is - 50 miles from the desktop PC!! I will be taking the discs back with me though so if you have any other suggestions of what I might be able to do, I would appreciate it. Many thanks
