For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.other than that... maybe the USB port you are using is not powered. Are you using a hub? Is this a regular HDD with a power adapter or a 2 1/2" one with two USB plugs.
I had trouble until I discovered that even with the two plugs in the USB hub it wasn't getting enough power. Luckily the hub had an socket for an power adapter and once power was supplied we've had no problems.
