DCOM Exploit - what the hell!!??
Recently removed avg v8
Installed avast
bought a three mobile broadband setup
Since then I keeo getting a pop-up window that tells me that avast has blocked an attack from a long numerical website "DCOM Exploit xxxx"
Any thoughts on this - is it something to worry about - do I burn the computer before Damian leaps out or what???????
Thanks in advance

You need to download this update to prevent vunerability to the DCOM exploit attack.

First, update and scan with Avast to make sure the worm hasn't infected your system and that your firewall is on .
Also, download and scan with the free version of superanti spyware.

Hi Bongoboy
Tried your advice
Ran superantispyware - no problem (found some cookies and quaranteed them.
Tried the download but got a message back reading:
"setup has detected that the service pack version of the system installed is newer than the update you are applying to it
you can only install this update on a computer with no service packs installed"
I am running xp pro version 2002 sp3
I am also not much of a teckie so have a limited expertise - is there a relatively simple site I can go to for what I need without hassling you?
cheers

Firstly, since Avast is doing it's job and stopping access through DCOM,there's no harm done and nothing to worry about.
The message you got with your download means you already have the latest patches,so all good there.
It's a well know security exploit in xp and to do with active x i believe.if you're really concerned you can disable DCOM through this download programme.
Although i would have a read about it on the link first and see what you think.
