I have loads of old photos which i would like to put onto cd or hard drive, Am i right in thinking that the only way would be to scan the pictures and then save them? Or is there any software out there that I could buy?

You can either buy a scanner - very cheap now, and give excellent results;

Take your photos to a shop for them to be onto cd for you - expensive in the long run

Or take photos of your photos with a digital camera - very poor results.
I does depend on how many you are talking about

scanning a few photos is a pain ...last count I had 4 carriers full of family photos - there is no way that I'm ever going to scan 'em.

the pros are a bit pricey - but they use auto feed drum scanners (v v v expensive kit) which pop them out at a fearful rate.

the more you get the cheaper it is ... so at least consider paying.
I took the lazy way out.

Do you have any kids, niece/nephew or grandchildren that could do this for you. A 12 year old did them for me and used her dad's photoshop to even repair some of the older ones. Much better than I could have done. Amazing how much patience a youngster has.
Some spending money for her holidays took care of my 'child-labour' guilt feeling.

I believe that if you save them to a CD it is best to use the CD-R, not the rewritable ones.
lol wildwood that's nothing short of brilliant

I assume they are out selling matches right now - or cleaning chimneys?
blimey guv cor luv a duck
