Help!!!

Using Windows XP, Mozilla F/Fox. I can't google - only get onto the initial google page. Can't access my hotmail account, and it's taken me about 20 minutes just to get here! Keep getting Server not found, or it can't connect to the pages I want. Local connection's OK., no plugs out. Can anyone suggest anything please - in a very simple-to-understand way??? Thank you.

for some reason there's a bad connexion between your pc and internet connexion.

What r u on...is it broadband, ISP, wifi?

Something is corrupt. Could you have download a virus to corrupt your settings. Check Tools / options.

Oh blimey, terambulan. I'm hopeless with computers, and this one IS hopeless! I'm on broadband hun. i DID go into tools earlier on, and just got confused because i'm so pc illiterate.

have you an anti virus programme try running a scan

U may have to switch everything off, incl your broadband box. Wait for everything to reset itself. Reconnect all, switch back on re-enter the BB codes etc.

If u can get into your emails, is there a worm/virus there, attachment or such. Clean up your emails to cut down on any virus' there.

Then switch off and re-connect

Oh thank you everyone, I know you're doing your best to help me here, but things are getting worse by the minute. I tried replying a few mins ago - but nothing happened, so I'm trying again. Can I run a scan at the same time as being on here? I've got the free home edition of AVG and Adaware, as well as Spybot S & D. Don't know if cookies are enabled or not - how do I find out? I'm ever so sorry, but as you can tell, I know next to nothing about computers! Terambulan - I don't know what the bb code/s is. Oh dear...this is terrible!

When you installed BB u were given an installation CD with password & code.

Your scans should/would have warned & cleaned pc during past use.

I think it's your internet connexion. Have u put anymore phones/fax etc on phone line. There are special telephone adapters with BB...are they in place & plugged in.

youshould be able to run a scan in the backround dont know if yee had flooding in the uk but we had plenty of flooding here in ireland and it affected broadband usage as the downstream and upstream flow into our house was out

Nothing's been touched or altered T. The only thing I can add to that...is that my eldest son connected to the internet via his mobile phone. Could anything there be the problem??
The installation cd's with the guy who set this computer up in the first place, so I can't even check THAT!
When I move from this topic, I'm also getting just the topic's list on the left hand side of the page. the rest stays blank for ages, so that I can't see recent posts, or reply very easily.

Hi Icey :-)...My puter tends to go mad at times,but it was really awful a couple of days ago,so,i did a clean up and defrag like Bez showed me,and it worked wonders

Hello linda - it'd be great if you could pass that info on. I've defragged before - groan....following instructions, but when I tried a clean up, I couldn't understand the jargon. yup - I'm afraid it's that bad!

It wasnt a thread teram,it was written info from Bez,which I dont have with me tonight and I cant remember it all exactly enough to give proper instructions.You should not be connected to the internet while you are running this programme and it can take a couple of hours or more to run. ....Icey..If Bez isnt on tonight,i'll contact her to give you the instructions in simple form(i'm hopeless with technology too) that worked for me!!

go to control panel and look at internet connexion. Maybe the mobile ur son connected to has corrupted ur connexion.

If ur setup man has kept the BB cd & codes you are part of a network (sharing with him) so ur internet connexion is dependant on his control......get out of that, if you can!

Think you go to ..start..then all programmes..accessories..systems tools..then disc clean up. It is the quick one. Agree to run the system. When it finishes...do the same procedure again for disc defrag...it can take a couple of hours. It all has to be done when not connected to the net though....

Thank you linda. I'll try all that in the morning. The whole thing's done my head in. So I just switch on...get to the start page or something and then do it?
terambulan - I looked at the internet connection in the control panel earlier, and everything seemed to be OK, but I can look again, thanks. Btw - too long-wonded to go into, but the guy who set everything up and has the codes, etc., works for us. he's a computer programmer and engineer, but isn't available at the moment. that's why I desperately need help here, and you've all been very kind. x

Look at Start/Programs/Connect to/Show all connections.....r they what you set up? If the mobile is showing u will have to delete it.

Also Control Panel Add/Delete programs....look for conflicts there.
