Getting laptop to play on TV

I have connected my XP Toshiba Satellite laptop to a LCD TV with VGA and Audio cables as suggested in TV manual. Going to the PC Source page on the TV I get a blue screen and no signal. What have I not done correctly?

have you switched on the VGA output on the laptop?

This is normally done by holding down the fn (function) key and the pressing one of the f keys along the top of the keyboard, look for one that has a image of a screen on it or says CRT

I believe it's normally f5 on Toshibas, but I may be wrong :)

Ta. Tried that, but still got a blue screen. It was F5
