AC , what programs do you think are the best for my computers security .I would like to pay for one or a few but not sure what to get for peace of mind.
i have nod32 but free version at mo. IS the paid version rated?

I'm Not AC but hey I'll throw my 10pence in anyhow :)

If you want free then either AVG or avast are the two highly rated free ones, I use AVG myself but have heard many reports that Avast is at leaset as good.

if you want to pay for it then I would recomend NOD32 as being good and easily the lightest on system load.

Don't forget you'll also need a firewall as the windows one is pretty crap, I'd recomend zonealarm for a decent free firewall.

hi Chuck. I often read about the imortance of a Firewall. I am using XP and my IP is Virgin Media. I am sure I have a firewall, but is there a specific way to check, please?

I also use AVG Free - it is very good too.

Goto control panel and double click security centre and it will tell you what firewall you have, if it is the windows firewall then I really would recomend getting something better such as zone alarm.

I appears I have Windows Firewall, plus Automatic Updates and Virus Protection all ON.

As I have one Firewall, can I install Zone Alarm to run alongside? Or do I need to disable the Windows Firewall?

if you install zone alarm it will automatically disable the windows firewall.
