What's it saying is not responding?

its says ending program, if you choose to end prog immediately you will lose unsaved data so i wait then it comes up to end program now click end now. which does turn it off but i never used to get that before it closed down after the first 2 clicks on the red box shutdown.
I also get this it's so annoying, so I too wil be interested in any answers.
Try quitting all programs before shutting down. It is likely that one of them is not closing.
I also have this problem on XP, so just leave the computer on 24/7.
As Gromit says, it sounds like something is still running when you are trying to shut down. Check on your task manager / processes what is running. Plus if there isn't any unsaved data its safe to click end now and it will shut down.
