Any help with this please?

I am using XP Home. Regularly I receive the yellow icon near the clock, telling me that updates are available. But when I download the updates, my Google page also changes to a more recent version which I do not want.

Also I noticed another change. When I go click My Computer > Local Disc C > Documents and Settings > My Name folder . .. I see that the Cookies folder has disappeared.

So I restored my system and everything is now back to previously. However, I still get prompted to download updates.

Can I ignore? Thank you

When you say your google page has changed what do you mean?

if it's just changed your home page then change it back to whatever you want, tools > internet options and on the first tab you can set your homepage to any page you want.

errrr, cokkies folder has gone.... why do you need to be able to see your cookie folder.. it's normally a hidden folder so just change the folder options to display hidden files and folders.

on any explorer window select tools > folder options then click on the view tab and put a tick in the option to show hidden folders and files (not recomended BTW)

It's best to download the updates... some of them can be security critical updates

what's the question again?

you install updates - restore your machine to before you installed the updates
why on earth wouls your system want to install the updates again ....

perhaps it has something to do with restoring your machine to before you installed the updates - do you think?

wasn't there a film that used a plot something like that - terminator or seven monkeys?
