Hi....Have any of you installed Service pack 3 to Windows XP? I keep on getting reminders that Service pack 3 is ready to be installed. Is it OK or better just not to bother. If so how can I stop the pop up telling me that it is ready to install please ?
Thanks...commoner.

I installed sp3 on both computers, no problems.

I always accept windows updates.
Just go ahead and install it.

All Microsoft XP fixes that follow it go on top of SP3 anyway so it is best to install it now.

It is rather large, so just set it going and then go and watch a film or whatever.

I think you do have to click "OK" at one point to start the install so you may want to go back to the PC at some point and see if it is waiting for you to click that.
btw Microsoft have said this is likely to be the last SP for Windows XP so if you install it you will be fully up to date.

Mind you, I think there are some fixes that go on top of SP3 once you have installed that.

Well thanks guys..gives me lots of confidence now to go ahead...much obliged.......commoner ;-)
I've installed it on upwards of 150 computers with no problems (other than a couple needed rejoining to our domain after installing... but that's not a problem for a home user) so reckon it's fairly safe to install :)

Well I did hear that there was a problem with AMD processors which I have....is there anything in that?
Two of my machines have AMD processors, and I didn't have any problems.
I'd guess about 30% of the ones I've installed on have AMD processors and also no problems regarding that.

I found a patchor whatever they are called which is to be installed before SP3 to stop some sort of "loop" ? happening.

This is what I mean..comments anyone please.

You may already have that fix on.

You can check which fixes you have on within Windows Update.

My guess is that if Update is offering you SP3 then it would already have installed that fix (but you had better check).

I have an AMD CPU on one of my PCs but did not have a problem.
