how to make printer work

Ihave connected printer to computer;i have clicked on FILE then PRINT but still nothing happens.What should i be doing? I know zilch about computers but urgently need to print something. Thank you

what make and model of printer is it?

You need to install the drivers, either from the CD that came with it or by downloading them.

And also you can press control and P at the same time to print as well, control may be marked as ctrl on your keyboard

The printer is a canon thats all i know
